Side by Side Volunteer Where – Alzheimer’s Society Cymru

New Opportunity – Side by Side Volunteer
Where – Alzheimer’s Society Cymru

Side by Side is an Alzheimer's Society service which helps people with dementia to continue to do the things they love & get out & about with the support of a volunteer. This extra support can make it easier for people with dementia to do things we might take for granted & feel part of their community.

You could support a person with dementia to do the following - go to their local park, the cinema, pick up an old hobby, visit local museums, try a new leisure activity or just stay at home & chat. There is also an option for telephone support, where you can chat over the phone to the person with dementia if they require this.

How does this role make a difference?

Side by Side volunteers will provide agreed support to people with dementia this could be either by visiting them in their home, enabling them to stay active, taking part in appropriate social and recreational activities in their community or simply just having a telephone conversation, whichever they require.  This opportunity is suitable for people aged 16+.

Beached Bird Surveyor – RSPB Cymru

This long-running national survey monitors trends in oil pollution affecting seabirds and beaches. The RSPB needs to increase its survey coverage - we have many accessible beaches without an allocated surveyor. Your local beach needs you!

The survey involves walking the most recent high tide line (strandline) of an agreed stretch of accessible sandy or pebble beach to record accurately any evidence of pollution, such as oil, and the number and species of any 'beached' seabirds.  This survey will need to be completed during the 24 and 25 February 2018.  This opportunity is suitable for all ages.
