Volunteer Befriender / Peer Support – The Stroke Association


Befrienders and Peer Supporters offer support across our Life After Stroke Services.  They help to reduce social isolation and improve confidence and self-esteem of stroke survivors.

           Supporting service users on a 1:1 basis according to their individual needs either face to face, on the phone or online
           Supporting service users to achieve personal goals
           Supporting service users to become more independent

Volunteer Speaker – Speaker Scheme – Diabetes UK Cymru


As part of this role, you will provide awareness raising talks about diabetes, including information on the signs, symptoms, causes, treatments, and risks and what support and services Diabetes UK can offer people living with diabetes. These talks can be delivered to community groups and professional/corporate organisations.

You will have the opportunity to build your experience and skills in this area by responding to requests for your attendance at different events and arranging your own talks where appropriate, supported by the team in your local office. We provide presentations in the English and Welsh language.

Peer Support Facilitator – Diabetes UK Cymru


Peer Support is all about bringing people with diabetes together in their local area to share experiences of living with the condition and to get practical tips from each other about how to live well. We are aiming to work with local GP surgeries to create a number of peer support groups which will be led by the peer support facilitator. These groups can also be set up in different settings i.e universities, workplaces. These volunteers are people like you, with lived experience of diabetes who can organise the sessions, facilitate group discussion and signpost people to useful services and information in their locality.

Diabetes UK Cymru are focusing a lot of their work on peer support in 2018 and to make it a success we need people like you!

Help in Drop in Sessions – Abbey Road Centre


Assisting and taking full part at the Drop in sessions by chatting to the clients, taking part in craft making, tv/film and many more.

Ability to speak Welsh and English is advantageous but not essential.

Screening Engagement Volunteers – Public Health Wales


An exciting opportunity to raise awareness of the NHS screening programmes which include:

• Breast screening
• Cervical screening

Transport Support – British Red Cross


Either using your own car or a Red Cross vehicle, you will offer door-to-door assistance for those in need, providing freedom of travel for those with mobility problems. You will help people get to medical appointments, carry out everyday essentials like shopping, or even just to get out of the house and socialise. Besides transport, we can also provide an escort who, if necessary, will stay with a client throughout their journey.

International sport and play volunteer– World at Play


The volunteer will work within a team to deliver sport and play sessions within marginalised communities across Eastern Europe.

What is the role?

- Running sport and play sessions
- Being an enthusiastic and supportive member of a team
- Documentation; photos, videos, blogs and social media 

Where?

- Marginalised communities in Eastern Europe, working within; care homes, schools and centres for those with disabilities, schools, roma communities, centres for street children and refugee camps.
- The team will travel to Serbia, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Croatia.  

What do we look for in a volunteer?

- No experience necessary (1 weeks full training provided)
- Passion for the project we deliver
- A commitment to the international project - completion of the 10 weeks
- A motivated, reflective team player, who wants to get involved in promoting integration, diversity and the power of sport and play!

Lead Know Your Risk Champion– Diabetes UK Cymru


You will engage with members of the public and stakeholders and be involved in various diabetes awareness & prevention activities to highlight the risk factors of Type 2 diabetes. As a volunteer, your will engage with people and assist them with finding out their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and provide information and advice on various topics such as the understanding of diabetes, and the benefits of physical activity in delaying its onset and the services Diabetes UK can offer people living with diabetes. You will encourage our communities to change their potentially harmful behaviours and habits so to reduce their risk of Type 2 diabetes and better self-manage their blood glucose level to avoid life-threatening complications.

Court Volunteer– Witness Service Caernarfon


The Witness Service provides practical and emotional support and information to witnesses so that they feel valued, respected and informed and able to give their best evidence in court.

Main duties and responsibilities include meeting witnesses away from the court environment, either at their home or other agreed safe place, to assess their needs and provide support. Together with the witness, and where appropriate their carer/ support worker/ parent/ guardian, develop a tailored plan of preparation and support.

The purpose of this preparation and support is to help reduce their anxiety and trauma and enable them to give their best evidence. Training and support will be provided.

Visitor Host– Lloyd George Museum


The Lloyd George Museum will be hosting a special event on December 1st, 2017 and we are looking for volunteers who would enjoy hosting a specified part of the museum and grave to VIP guests.  This involves being able to speak with confidence about the location of the museum that you are caretaking for the event to people in authority and/or the public eye.  We will aim to place volunteers in pairs around the museum in the main museum itself, in Highgate and the workshop (Lloyd George's childhood home), Lloyd George's grave and the grounds.  A training day will be arranged in November 2017 and information around the museum, Lloyd George and his childhood and early career in North Wales are freely available on the internet.

Helpline Volunteer (women only role) – Welsh Women’s Aid


To provide a confidential information and signposting telephone helpline service to people experiencing domestic abuse and sexual violence, and to those contacting the service on their behalf.  To evaluate and minimise risk to callers who are experiencing domestic abuse and sexual violence.  To refer callers to appropriate support services making use of the
Women’s Aid online vacancy system where necessary.  To maintain accurate information on calls received, that comply with confidentiality and the Data Protection Act.

Overcoming Obstacles Volunteer Assistant – WITH (Welsh Institute of Therapeutic Horsemanship)

To volunteer alongside the Overcoming Obstacles project staff to deliver Horse Agility and Therapeutic Riding sessions to individuals who are survivors of abuse, helping them to gain confidence and communication skills and become more involved in their communities.

Project Duties

           Helping participants gain transferable and practical skills that will enhance their future prospects
           Acting as a leader/side-walker, ensuring the safety and encouraging engagement of participants.
           Encouraging strong, positive relationships in the life of each participant.
           Coaching others in the safe and compassionate handling of horses. 

Administrative and Other Duties
           Ensuring the highest level of confidentiality is maintained
           Maintaining all relevant and appropriate equipment in excellent condition
           Adhering to WITH’s policies and procedures at all times
           Actively participating in the upkeep of the facilities and the care of the horses

‘Feeling Herd’ Project Volunteer – WITH (Welsh Institute of Therapeutic Horsemanship)


To work alongside the Feeling Herd staff to deliver equine-facilitated parenting sessions to families who suffer disadvantage, helping them to gain confidence and communication skills and improve their family relationship as well as practical horse care skills. To work with service users in a person-centred, non-judgemental way, listening to their needs, issues and aspirations and ensuring that the ethos of WITH is upheld at all times.

My Guide Volunteer (Llwyngwril, Meirionnydd) – Guide Dogs for the Blind Association

My Guide is a new scheme to help blind and visually impaired people in the area to get out and about by pairing them with specially-trained volunteer guides.  

It works by matching a trained volunteer with a person who is blind or partially sighted, in order to help them reach their mobility goal. The aim is to increase mobility, confidence and independence. 

My Guide Ambassador for Wales, Kylene Rafferty, said identifying the right volunteers is vital, as the scheme involves working closely with adults who have a visual impairment.

Volunteer Reader Leader - North Wales 'Better with a Book' Project - The Reader Organisation


Building on The Reader's previous north Wales project ‘Make Friends with a Book’ we are setting up new Shared Reading groups across 3 counties of north Wales and looking for volunteers in Gwynedd. 

Purpose: To enable people to benefit from a quality Shared Reading experience which seeks to improve wellbeing, build community and lessen social isolation.

Paired with another volunteer Reader Leader, you will be responsible for delivering a Shared Reading group on a weekly basis.

New Opportunity - Men's Shed, Caernarfon


We are looking to recruit volunteers to support the new men's shed scheme in Caernarfon. Men's Shed is a national initiative which supports men. Activities are organized which meets the interests of those involved e.g. woodwork, gardening, art and craft, LPs and walking.

Caernarfon's Mens' Shed is located on the Cibyn Industrial Estate.
