Volunteers support pupils for a couple of hours each
week, in schools or community settings, listening to them read, giving extra
help with Maths or other subjects, or getting involved with a range of
activities from gardening, to cooking, to drama, to knitting. The important thing is the regular one-to-one
interaction (always supervised by teachers or staff.) Just 10 minutes a day
listening to children read can make a huge difference to their overall ability
and confidence.
