VOLUNTEER BEFRIENDER (TELEPHONE) – Macular Society

There are many factors contributing to social isolation – age, disability, even rural isolation. Our Telephone Befriending Service aims to reduce the feelings of loneliness and isolation that can be experienced by people living with macular disease.

We need Volunteer Befrienders to offer a friendly listening ear to those that need it, engaging them in conversations over the phone, talking about things that are of interest to them whether that is macular disease, hobbies or the weather. You may also need to signpost people on to additional sources of support if appropriate.  People wishing to access this service will register their interest via our Helpline on 0300 3030 111.

You will be given the opportunity to attend a one day training course to provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake this particular role.
